We just returned Sunday evening from our trip to Mountain Market Place Mission in Webster Springs, WV. We were accompanied on this trip by Davis and Tara Parkman, what a joy to have them along and get to witness the hands on ministry there.
We left early Friday morning and arrived in Summersville where we spent the night and enjoyed a time of rest. Saturday morning we arrived at 8 AM where folks were already lined up for the turkeys to be given away at 10 AM.
We unloaded the truck and trailer load of clothes that we had taken. I was so impressed with the reception from Gary, Lilly and the volunteer staff who welcomed us with open arms. Just being around these folks and seeing the love and compassion they have for the people in the area thrills my heart and makes me glad that I can be a small part of the ministry there. All this is made possible through the generosity of the folks that support our ministry with clothes, food, and contributions.
We were joined with three other couples from Pennsylvania who also brought clothes and came to assist in the distribution of the turkeys. A total of 572 people had signed up in October to receive a Thanksgiving Turkey and by 3 PM all but about 30 turkeys were gone. What a wonderful time we had ministering to those people.
We have at least one more trip this year and that will be to carry the sugar in time for Christmas. The reason we’re taking sugar comes from our visit in July. We overheard folks talking about the sugar in remarking, “They never had sugar before.”
Because of one lady bringing one bag of sugar with some clothes I got the idea of sugar. I decided to collect 500 bags of sugar for December. To date 394 bags have been promised. Only God could do what we are witnessing through this ministry.
We continue to covet your prayers and support.
Marianne and I wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving, giving thanks to God for all our blessings.
